Briggs and Stratton vertical shaft wiring?
I have a 11HP Briggs and Stratton engine timing balanced vertical axis (model # 252,707 Type # 0146-01 Code # 78031411) and got old in a Simplicity Broadmoor 728 riding mower. There are two wires coming out from under the wheel, I'm pretty sure are for the alternator, my question is where to connect the cables being in the right type of tractor? Do they connect to the battery, solenoid, voltage regulator, more? Will I be able to run the engine without these connected up? Thank you. A cable is red, the other is black.
I am not intimate with the Broadmoor "horse mower, but I can tell red usually goes to a regulator or diode then through the ammeter and ends at the battery + black usually goes through Strait negative engine / chassis ground. the engine will run fine without them, but the battery fails. PS I have commissioned a lawn tractor with a former bad regulator and a riding mower with a bad alternator and I just have to recharge my batteries 2 or 3 times a year.
